System Dynamics Applications Award

The System Dynamics Applications Award is presented by the System Dynamics Society as often as once every two years for the best "real world" application of system dynamics conducted within 10 years of the submission deadline. The best application will be based primarily on demonstrated measurable benefit to an organization through the use of system dynamics, and secondarily for new ideas that improve the art of applying system dynamics, or for relating work to existing system dynamics literature and/or other disciplines.

Nominations are invited for the 2009 System Dynamics Society Applications Award.

Criteria for eligible papers include: (1) papers must be full-length and written for an SD-user audience, in the English language in the original or after translation; (2) if previously published, the papers must have been within 7 years of the submission deadline; (3) at least one named author must have been employed at the time of the work by the company or organization whose performance was improved by the SD modeling effort; (4) the paper must not have won or been an announced finalist for a previous award from the System Dynamics Society; and (5) papers may be self-nominated.

The award was last presented in 2007. A citation for the 2007 award winners, Vince Barabba, Chet Huber, Fred Cooke, Nick Pudar, Jim Smith and Mark Paich for the paper "A Multimethod Approach for Creating New Business Models: The General Motors OnStar Project" (Interfaces, 32(1), January-February 2002, pp. 20-34) appears in The System Dynamics Review 24:1 (Spring 2008). Potential nominees are urged to review the citation and the paper as it is an excellent example of both real world impact, and summarizing that impact and the role that the system dynamics model played.

Winners are announced, and a certificate presented, at the annual conference of the System Dynamics Society. The winner may also be invited to deliver a talk on the work, which may subsequently be published in the System Dynamics Review.

Nominations, papers, and supporting information should be sent by 15 April 2009.
