Registration deadline: August 6, 2021

Participatory modeling engages stakeholders in the process of modeling complex systems, integrates scientific and local knowledge, and produces models useful for stakeholder decision-making.

This Virtual Participatory Modeling Field School features 3½ days of hands-on workshops on the key elements of a participatory modeling project, including:

  • How to engage stakeholders in the modeling process
  • How to address community-identified issues through systems modeling
  • Modeling methods (agent-based modeling, fuzzy cognitive mapping, system dynamics modeling, and social network analysis)
  • Qualitative methods for visualizing complex systems
  • Facilitating the use of modeling insights to transform systems

The workshop is facilitated by faculty and community partners with deep experience in PM initiatives in cities throughout the U.S.

Who Should Attend?

  • Faculty and students interested in learning about systems thinking and participatory modeling techniques and how they can be used to address complex problems
  • Community members interested in learning how to more effectively address complex community problems using systems thinking and participatory modeling
