En-Roads Climate Action Simulation Game

Description

The Climate Action Simulation (CAS) is a highly interactive, role-playing game for groups to explore the different stakeholders and solutions that need to come together to take action on climate change. It is framed by the En-ROADS simulator, which allows participants to rapidly assess the impacts of different solutions to climate change—like energy supply subsidies, energy efficiency, or land use changes. This game is a fun format for large groups to explore climate change solutions and see what it would really take to address this global challenge. En-ROADS and The Climate Action Simulation were developed by Climate Interactive and MIT Sloan's Sustainability Initiative. Strategy tool: En-Roads is a free strategy tool and simulator that can be used for:

• Building Awareness about Sustainability

Companies around the world, like HSBC Bank, have used En-Roads and the Climate Workshop as a strategy tool and to build awareness about sustainability and the company sustainability strategy. How does the game work? The game is conducted as a simulated emergency climate summit organized by the United Nations to establish a concrete plan to limit global warming by bringing together government, business, and civil society representatives. Participants take on the role of energy industry leaders, climate activists, heads of state, agricultural workers, and more. As a group, they negotiate and propose climate solutions to limit global warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius. Training and facilitation: Climate Interactive offers a free training Mastering En-Roads, which trains people in En-Roads, and also covers climate and energy system dynamics, interdisciplinary climate solutions, advanced facilitation tips, and more. Completing this training as well and other requirements can allow you to become a Climate Ambassador. Participants per game: ideally 20-40 people is a manageable number, but can be up to 300. Game format: This game can be run either in-person or online. Cost and materials: All materials are free. Languages: the En-Roads simulator is currently available in the following languages: English, German, Spanish, Chinese, Portuguese, Turkish, Bulgarian, Italian, Arabic, French, Japanese, Swahili, and Slovenian.
