In this Collective Learning Meeting (CLM), WPI System Dynamics and the System Dynamics Economics SIG host Garry Piepenbrock (postmaster@ii-sl.org) who will present:
Toward a Theory of the Evolution of the Global Political Economy:
Competition between Liberal and Coordinated Market Economies
Short Description: This presentation explores how wealth is created and distributed within and between nations. System Dynamics is used to numerically simulate the nonlinear dynamic behaviour of constrained competition between Liberal Market Economies (LMEs) and Coordinated Market Economies (CMEs) as a multi-predator-prey system which generates overshoot, limit cycles and chaos.
Critiques and feedback on the internal structural validity (i.e. the logic of the causal relations) of the model would be appreciated.
Biography: Garry is a 17-year-old high school student on scholarship to Eton College in the UK, where he has won 13 awards in essay competitions in Economics, Politics, Philosophy and History, including a John Maynard Keynes Prize (where Keynes was a student). He founded the John Maynard Smith Society for Innovation in Interdisciplinary Inquiry and is a Secretary of the Entrepreneurship Society. He is on the Committees of the Economics and Politics Societies and he is an editor of the Economics and Politics journal, Etonomics (https://etonomics.com/author/garrypiepenbrock/). He is a member of the System Dynamics Society, a member of the Young Scholars Initiative of the Institute for New Economic Thinking, and a Fellow of the International Institute for Strategic Leadership (https://twitter.com/IISLorg) where he is passionate about bringing STEM to the social sciences through his modelling and research on ‘The Evolution of Economic Ecosystems’ and its dissemination via short educational films (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myivtuppGI0).
